Black Crowned Night Heron

This bird is tricky to get as his name implies! He is a night time bird! So, a lot of sleeping during the day. I’ve managed to photograph one at Morro Bay, CA last summer and this one hidden in the bramble at Fairview Park, Costa Mesa, CA. What I love about this shot is his red eye and the yellow of his beak that stands out in the gray bramble. He opened his eye from his daytime nap for just a moment for me to get this shot.
